"I Was Drenched in Sweat, Trying to Perform Instead of Trust the Process"
Pamela Mertz was mid-session in her first group coaching demo when she realized she'd completely lost the plot. Sweaty, anxious, desperate to impress - she stopped everything and confessed to the group: "I'm trying to perform instead of paying attention to the process." That moment of raw honesty became the foundation of everything she now teaches. Ten years, 1,000+ coaching hours, and 70+ clients later, Pamela has learned what every master coach eventually discovers: the Holy Spirit does the coaching, we just make space and follow His lead.
"Sometimes we think we want to change the circumstances when really we find peace by changing ourselves."
Six years ago, Jennifer Nickel wasn't sure she could call herself a coach. Despite 13 years in corporate marketing and a decade serving nonprofits, she held back from coaching training because of one nagging thought: Don't you have to have your life together to be a life coach? Today, with 1,000+ coaching hours and a PCC credential, she teaches the next generation of coaches at PCCI. Here's how she got there.
"I didn't have to have the answers for people."
Michael Pfau never planned to become a coach. In 2002, he was a Network Administrator and Assistant Pastor searching for leadership training tools when he discovered Christian Coaching by Gary Collins. What caught his attention wasn't a new technique—it was relief. "What I loved about coaching is I didn't have to have the answers for people," he recalls. That discovery launched a 24-year journey that's included over 5,000 coaching hours with 270 clients, mastery in life transitions coaching, and training aspiring coaches at PCCI since 2008.
