"I am unique. This is my coaching journey and I don't have to compare myself to others."

For over fifty years, Gail showed up faithfully to her logistics job, all while carrying a quiet dream of helping people find purpose and meaning. When her department was outsourced in 2023, she faced a choice: play it safe or finally pursue what she'd been made for. Despite financial fears and doubts about starting over at her age, Gail stepped forward in faith - and discovered that her decades of life experience weren't detours at all. They were preparation.

For over fifty years, Gail Roma had the same steady rhythm: showing up, solving problems, keeping the logistics moving. She was good at it. Reliable.

But she carried a quiet longing the whole time.”

I always had the desire to be a psychologist, social worker, something along those fields,” Gail shares. People came to her naturally—coworkers, friends, even strangers—seeking advice, needing to talk. She loved listening. She loved helping people find their way. But without the formal degrees, she tucked that dream aside and kept working.

Then in 2023, everything shifted. Her department was outsourced. After five decades, she was suddenly without full-time work.

Most people would have panicked. Gail saw a door opening.

The Gap Between Here and There

She didn’t want to return to logistics. She wanted to finally step into what she’d been made for—helping others discover their purpose and passion. But there was a gap: no credentials, no clear path, and honestly, no certainty about how to bridge the distance between where she’d been and where she longed to go.

When Gail discovered PCCI’s faith-based coach training, something clicked. “I knew this is where I belonged,” she says. But there was one significant obstacle: the cost. She had just lost her job. The financial fear was real.

Still, she stepped forward in faith. And as she shared her excitement with friends, something unexpected happened—a substantial donation came through from someone she never would have anticipated. The provision met her right at the point of her obedience.

Even then, another fear surfaced. At her age, could she really learn something entirely new? Would she be able to retain the material, apply it, coach effectively?

When Everything Changed

Those fears dissolved the moment she started training.

“I loved what I was learning,” Gail recalls. The Zoom classes felt surprisingly personal—she made genuine friendships, stayed connected through monthly Coaching Cafés and small groups. But the real turning point came during her first 100 practice coaching hours.

That’s when everything changed.

Fifteen friends agreed to let her coach them—and what started as “helping Gail get her hours” became something none of them expected. Women had breakthroughs. Tears were shed. Goals were accomplished. Relationships were restored. “The majority concluded that they could not believe how coaching helped them in areas of their lives that they were not aware of,” Gail remembers. “It was the best time for me!”

But perhaps the most profound shift happened inside Gail herself.

“The first thing that comes to mind is when I realized and accepted the fact that I am unique,” she says. “This is my coaching journey and I don’t have to compare myself to others. This breakthrough gave me the confidence I need to continue.”

She learned to truly listen—not just hear words, but create space for people to be seen and valued. She learned to ask questions that unlock clarity. She learned that James 1:19 wasn’t just a verse to memorize but a way to love people: “Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”

Living the Calling

Today, Gail has her own coaching business at gailroma.com. She hands out business cards everywhere she goes. She meets weekly with clients. She’s no longer wondering what this season of her life could look like—she’s living it.

And here’s what moves her most: “Seeing how people need hope, purpose, passion—and through becoming a Christian Life Coach, I now have the opportunity to be part of that process in a person’s life.”

The woman who once tucked her dream aside is now walking in her calling. The woman who feared it was too late discovered it was exactly the right time.
