Do you have an elevator speech for your coaching practice? If not, you should.
“An elevator pitch, elevator speech, or elevator statement is a short summary used to quickly and simply define a person, profession, product, service, organization, or event and its value proposition,” Wikipedia explains.
The concept reflects the idea that you should be able to deliver your speech in the span of an elevator ride–approximately thirty seconds to two minutes.
My Elevator Speech
“Why do people hire a life coach?” It’s a question I hear all the time.
Here’s my response:
A person hires a Life Coach for the same reasons they might hire a fitness coach, a nutrition coach, a business coach, or a coach for anything else they want to improve. The coach will work with them primarily by telephone in regularly scheduled sessions to help them:
- Clarify the vision they have for their lives
- Identify the values they hold that support that vision
- Identify the things that are robbing them of living that vision
- Set and follow-through on goals to fulfill that vision.
The result is a person who is living his or her life more in keeping with their deeply held core values; fulfilling their dreams of the way they want their life to be.
Your Elevator Speech
Now, it’s your turn. Imagine yourself in an elevator with a potential client. What would you say?
When developing your elevator speech, consider the following:
- Identify about your target audience.
- Highlight what differentiates you from other coaches.
- Think in “sound bites.” What can you say that will “stick” with prospects long after your conversation.
- Keep your business cards ready and within reach. Hand them out liberally.
